    아이콘Notice Regarding Rain and Natural Disasters

    Golf courses (ex, in Southeast Asia) typically proceed with rounds even in rainy conditions. In most cases, players temporarily take shelter from sudden downpours and then resume play. Therefore, unlike in Korea, cancellations or green fee refunds due to rain are not allowed. Please ensure you check in and follow the specific policies of each golf course (ex, rain coupons, etc).

    • When routing golf holes with varying terrain, I try to find a high point to locate the back tee and the low area directly in front of it. This helps add visual drama and presentation to the fairway and bunkers in the landing area. To create this ＂high/low＂ look on a very flat site, we creatively sculpted coral boulders with a rock hammer (usually in the area in front of the tee) and used fill to elevate the tee. To create as much fill as possible and keep the area in front of the tee dry, we dug down as deep as possible while staying above the water level. Knowing we had coral stone to work with, we carved the rocky ＂coral＂ edges vertically to create additional ＂shadow＂ and eye appeal without worrying about erosion or future maintenance issues. The soil was coral stone (calcareous soil) throughout and there was no significant fertile sediment that could be reused, so we covered the entire golf course with sand, leaving 8 to 12 inches throughout the fairways and tapering in depth towards the jungle edge. Before covering, we dug sump wells in the designed low areas and piped drainage into the area. The drainage from the 4th and 9th holes leads to the lakes on each hole. The 9th hole was an irrigation lake, so all the drainage from the hole was recycled for reuse. When the office sent me the plans, the route was almost finalized and the land around the golf course had already been subdivided and surveyed for sale. After the route was finalized, I asked the developer to make one change: in the original layout, the 10th hole was the 12th hole and faced the opposite direction. In my opinion, the 10th hole was too far from the clubhouse, so I flipped the original 12th hole to create the 10th hole, and the relationship to the clubhouse was much better. Today, the original 10th hole (a par 5) is now the 11th hole. The 14th hole turned out to be the longest par 4 on the card at 475 yards. It was appropriate to have a challenging par 4 on the back nine, but we also wanted to provide enough relief around the putting surface to make it fair if you missed your second shot to the green. A short ＂false＂ bunker on the green was intended to disguise the length of the approach shot, and the putting surface was designed and shaped to have three distinct areas for setting up pin placement: a ＂pin-able＂ crown in front, a long saddle in the middle, and an elevated platform in the back.
