“The Rome Golf Club” esisteva già nel 1898, come testimonia una rivista dell’epoca. I Soci, in prevalenza diplomatici inglesi ed americani appassionati golfisti, realizzarono un percorso fuori Porta Pia sulla Nomentana all’altezza delle Catacombe di Sant’Agnese, come documentato in una pubblicazione inglese sui campi dell’Europa continentale del 24 febbraio 1899, contenente la descrizione del percorso di 9 buche che si sviluppava sui terreni dell’attuale Quartiere Trieste presumibilmente dei Principi Torlonia.
